Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for April 3.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Newcastle, Ballarat, Doomben, Murray Bridge and Ascot.
NEWCASTLE: RACE 7 @ 5:15 PM
WILLINGA FREEFALL (6) classy gelding who finally draws a decent gate. Had to be dragged back from the wide gate on resumption before launching late with an eye-catching third over 1200m at Gosford in the Provincial CQ on March 16. Will sit just off them today and take plenty of stopping. TERRA MATER (9) promising mare who won three-straight last time in, before resuming with a fast finishing fourth over 1200m at Gosford in the Provincial CQ. Goes equally as well second-up and reunites with Rawiller today. Look for her powering late. BALTIC COAST (10) first-up after three months had to be taken back from the draw when a tough fourth over 1400m in the Provincial CQ at Kembla Grange on March 23. Smart on his day and looks good value. CLOUDLAND (2) another of the Kris Lees runners who will need a good ride from the wide gate. Near his peak now and no surprise to see him come out hard. Don't dismiss.
SELECTIONS: Willinga Freefall to win.
As a FREE Racing and Sports offer, below is the Newcastle Computer Card.
BALLARAT: RACE 3 @ 2:30 PM
SNACK BAR (6) was good on debut at this track over 1000m, running on well to grab second, beaten under a length. Looks ideally suited rising to 1200m now and draws to sit much closer with Jamie Kah taking the ride. SNEAKY SUNRISE (13) is a filly by The Autumn Sun on debut. She's jumped out well enough to be a factor and must be respected. NARBOLD (3) is a colt by Churchill on debut. From the Waller yard with Craig Williams to ride, he's worth keeping safe. HEAVENBENT (11) can return with a better run here after a spell while IMMORTAL WEAPON (2) could run well on debut.
SELECTIONS: Snack Bar to win.
DOOMBEN: RACE 9 @ 4:33 PM
HELIKEDEMPRETTY (5) is going well having scored a first-up win at this course before fighting on well for second at this track and trip. Has a win and a placing from two attempts when third-up so a big run is on the cards. TYPHOON TAAVI (1) raced on pace and stuck on okay when resuming in a higher-graded race. Will be improved by that. Likely to progress. LAYDOWNLILY (6) kicked off the campaign with a hat trick of wins before a fourth over this trip at Gold Coast last start. Has the gate speed to take up a forward position. Can be thereabouts. MORITZ GIRL (9) is a progressive filly who races well fresh. Readied with two trials so can make an impact.
SELECTIONS: Helikedempretty goes on top.
MURRAY BRIDGE: RACE 7 @ 5:10 PM
JILLADORA (5) has had three starts this preparation all in town and placed the latest. Drops plenty in grade on those and Crowther sticks aboard. Draws for a soft run and rates to be winning. FLY THE LINE (12) impressed at The Parks first up and then got too far back here from a cruel barrier. Fitter again and can make the finish. FOX GEM (3) resumes and ran his best race before the spell when narrowly beaten here over a mile. He has won 2/3 fresh and has delivered at this distance. He's been away a while but expect him to be hitting the line hard. SEVEN SECRETS (1) peaks and is better than the form line suggests. Has a low barrier and 3kg claim and it won't surprise to see him improve today.
SELECTIONS: Backing Jilladora to win.
ASCOT: RACE 6 @ 4:40 PM
MAJOR MARIO (6) ran on well from last position on the Scarpside at Pinjarra first-up and suggested he was in for a good campaign. Improved second-up last campaign and maps for a much better run this time around. Peak figure came over this trip last campaign and a repeat of that will see him back in the winners' stall. CHOIXWAY (3) was only 2.5L away last time out and steps out in trip now fourth-up into the campaign. 2kg's come off for Campbell and he should be prominent from the inside alley. Can play a major role. WESTCOAST EXPRESS (5) was impressive when winning on debut and the form out of the race has already been franked. Expect him to have come on from the debut effort and while this is harder, he does possess good upside. Can make his presence felt. CRIMMO (4) was good first-up over this trip at Belmont and warrants plenty of respect. HUGHBERT (7) won impressively first-up and is not to be discounted.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Major Mario.
