Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for April 5.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Sapphire Coast, Benalla, Rockhampton, Launceston and Cranbourne.
SAPPHIRE COAST: RACE 4 @ 3:05 PM
SNIPPETY STAR (1) led and just failed to hang on when resuming over this trip at Canberra two runs back. Dropped back to 1000m at Goulburn last start but missed narrowly as $1.85 favourite. Very fit and like her back at this trip. Will be very hard to run down. SASSEN (9) is yet to place in six starts but finds her easiest maiden to date. Even effort last time to finish fourth at big odds over 1300m at Goulburn. Capable of mixing it with these. BEOGRAD BOY (6) improved sharply when lining up for the third time this prep last Friday at Canberra, beaten just 0.2 lengths in a blanket finish over 1400m. Back in trip is a query but he cannot be ruled out. OCEAN EYES (5) is back from an 11-week break. Opened last prep with a solid third over this distance at Nowra. In the mix if she finds that form. KANOOZI (7) resumes. Trialled well here recently and is a lightweight hope.
SELECTIONS: Snippety Star looks too good for these.
As a FREE Racing and Sports offer, below is the Sapphire Coast Computer Card.
BENALLA: RACE 3 @ 2:30 PM
Freedman-trained SAMURAI (7) finished well to place at Bendigo first up and then missed a whisker at Geelong heavily bet. The mile looks right up his alley and fitter will take beating. UNDAUNTING (13) resumed much improved beaten 1L at Bendigo. That stacks right up and she'll also be suited out to this trip. Draws for a soft run and is a player. ENGELINE (9) got too far back at Bendigo on debut but finished it off well. She will have taken fitness and learning and needs the 1600m. Has a handy barrier and is a quick improver. FINE FUTURE (4) raced favourite at Terang on debut and found a place. Has been freshened and has a positive jockey switch. In the mix.
SELECTIONS: Backing Samurai.
ROCKHAMPTON: RACE 1 @ 2:35 PM
Former Victorian HELL (2) is first-up for the new stable but showed more than enough ability down south and is expected to measure up against this lot. Has tuned up for this with a dominant trial win here and looks the one they all have to run down. FLAWLESS AMBITION (3) has had a few chances but has placed one from one around this circuit and will be rock-hard fit for this. Looms as the main danger. CUMIN SPINNER (8) has placed first-up before and may run a race while fresh. RUMBLING BOY (5) best of the rest with the 3kg claim.
SELECTIONS: Hell to break through.
LAUNCESTON: RACE 5 @ 8:00 PM
BINE (6) has been threatening and tumbles in weight in Open grade. Her figures stack right up and she's the one they have to beat. LOYALTY BLUES (1) won the Maiden heavily bet and then spiked on that beaten a whisker in a CL1. In good hands and has plenty of scope for improvement. SIR JAG (2) has been close up his last two over 1400m. Comes back 200m off a freshen and has the figures to feature. HUBUBBAJAHN (9) runs along and Newitt sticking is a lead. She's also got upside and on the limit weight can give a sight at a price.
SELECTIONS: Backing Bine to win.
CRANBOURNE: RACE 8 @ 8:45 PM
I AM CAVIAR (13) is racing well without winning this time in and won't get better many chances. He placed in three in a row prior to last start when 4th to Johnny Rocker, who nearly beat Imperatriz. He's got the speed to push on and lead and will take catching. CHILLED (11) resumes. She was last seen running in a strong 3yo race behind Hedged when well fancied in betting. This suits. Big chance. BUBBLE PALACE (12) should be ready to fire and can figure. WONDEREACH (5) won fresh last time in and can go well.
SELECTIONS: I Am Caviar to win.
