Group 3 Vamos Stakes, February 19 - Launceston

3 minute read

Rebel Bride secured the Vamos Stakes in its first running as a Group 3 event.

Star Tasmanian mare Rebel Bride scored a decisive win – her 15th (with 13 placings) from 31 starts.

She was quickly away and immediately crossed to the lead. She was then able to steady the pace and covered the first 600m in a moderate 38.93sec before quickening approaching the home turn. She kicked clear on straightening and was untroubled to win by a length and three quarters, sprinting home in a quick 45.49sec (last 800m).

The favourite Miss Stellabelle was eased from her outside barrier and was last early on in the small seven-horse field. Craig Newitt moved her up (three wide) passing the 800m due to the slow pace. She was urged to improve nearing the turn, put in a run, getting to second on turning into the straight but could then make no impression on the winner, battling on for second.

Isibaeva was ridden patiently and remained at the tail of the field to the the 600m. She went wide approaching the home turn and came with a strong late-finish for a good third being unsuited by the sprint-home tactics of the race.
