Jockey Chris Johnson made attempts to have the favourite Jacquetta settle behind the first three, but instead gave the filly her head to range three wide on the pace coming onto the course proper at the 500m. Jacquetta was let stride to lead at the 200m and held her rivals at bay under a hands and heels ride.

From sixth in running, Peach Cove was held in a pocket when looking for room to the outside of Jacquetta in the straight and once clear at the 100m she finished solidly for second.

Travelling widest near the pace in fifth, Outlaw Kate kept up a determined effort for third.

The Listed event for juveniles saw once again the domination of Team Rogerson this season in 2yo racing when Jacquetta won with something in hand well away from the inside and it was only the third race. It was the third win for the filly (from four starts that have all come here at Riccarton) and came in a field of just seven where only the single male juvenile contested the event and further proving that female gallopers dominate New Zealand racing in every facet. They get all the advantages regarding weight and higher staked special events plus can run in almost every race unlike the male. She was sat three-wide near the home turn to win by almost a length in 58.78 but ignore all chute times as they simply do not pass muster on any footing. The two fastest chutes in the world belong to Riccarton and Trentham and you must regard all times at these venues over 800m, 1000m and 1200m no matter the footing as totally irrelevant. The so called ‘old’ track record for 1200m at Riccarton was set in 1996 by Kincaple Lad when it carried 56kg to win in 1:06.81 and the current so called ‘new’ track record for 1200m is 1:07.01 in 2008 by Pushy Too (a mare that carried 58.5kg that day) Black Caviar has never beaten those times and in fact has never broken 1:07 and even in her amazing G1 Newmarket Handicap win under 58kg she could only clock in a straight line at Flemington her best gallop ever of 1:07.36. The track record for 1200m at Trentham is 1:06.81 by Bawalaksana in 1999. Funny how chute tracks like Riccarton and Trentham, with a dog leg, are faster that a straight line and if you need the absolute slam dunk fact then consider this for a moment. The 2yo track record at Trentham set in 2004 is 1:07.24 by Kapsdan, which after that in seven more starts clocked up just one placing. Who knew that a juvenile could clock a faster time than the never defeated Black Caviar around a partial bend! Jacquetta beat a game and a tad luckless Peach Cove that may well end up being the best runner out of this race in time. She got held in by the third finisher Outlaw Kate for the majority of the home straight. Outlaw Kate must be sick of the sight of Team Rogerson runners having placed in all her starts so far too that yard. The only male runner Hapi Assasin led and finish fourth but leaders had no hope all day with the way the track was over-watered and not one of them could or did win.
