2017 Sua George Moore Stakes Group 3 December 2 - Doomben

3 minute read

Monsieur Gustave wins 2017 Sua George Moore Stakes Group 3 $200,000 at Doomben (QLD), 1200m.

Monsieur Gustave is now the winner of his last four races in succession, all at stakes level. Having his second run this preparation, he worked from his outside barrier (10) before getting to the front at the 700m. He pressured from that point, briefly got clear at the 300m and then fought back under 58kg to score a very game win by the narrowest of margins, and in quick time.

The favourite Calanda began well, was eased to get a good trip in fourth place (one out and one back). He challenged at the 200m and battled gamely for second, beaten a nose.

Snoopy was smartly away, led early on before getting a good run in third place on the rails. He angled into clear running at the 200m and then fought on well for a close up third in a promising first up effort for his new trainer Chris Munce.

Most Important was back in seventh place, one off the rails, went deep on turning for home and kept running on nicely for (0.6 lengths) fourth in a promising second-up effort.
