BRISBANE v CARLTON

Friday 8 March @ the Gabba

Often what the losing Grand Finalist does the following year is revealing. This is especially so in the first month of it.

These two met in the Preliminary Final at this very ground and it looked like being a blow-out. However remember that was going to be in the favour of the Blues.

The first 5 goals of the game and there was a kangaroo in the headlights feeling about the Gabba. But then things swung by half time, were 20 clear by the last change and it was seemingly inevitable.

Brisbane would then go on to a famous and classic Grand Final where they looked home late only for the Pies to snag the moments that mattered.

Will they recover easily because of the manner of the loss being so honest and respectable? Or will it be that they were so close to the silverware and won't get over it?

Carlton had a year of two halves. They were 4-1-8 after losing to Essendon in Round 13. The calls were happening behind the scenes surely. Would Voss last, would the board move, who would take the blame?

Then the switch was flicked and 9 straight wins ensued. That was followed by two finals and a large Quarter Time lead at the Gabba.

This is a real psychological battle. You would be forgiven for thinking the Blues are right in this so obviously. The loss of Sam Walsh has to be some factor.

Now look at Brisbane's Gabba fun and that has to be strongly considered as another major influence. 14 on the trot at home including 3 finals.

That will do reason enough to stay with the Grand Final side but it can be close.

Match Selection: Brisbane by 14 points

Suggested Bets: Brisbane 1-39 @ $2.00
