3 minute read

Racing and Sports will provide analysis of games in the 2024 AFL Season.

We'll endeavour to run through the form, incorporate appropriate stats and also supply a betting prediction which won't always just be who will win.

GWS v NORTH MELBOURNE

Saturday 16 March @ Engie Stadium

The new Premiership favourites (tad soon to be twiddling the knobs though) face off against a team who won't be anywhere near that mark – how does this play out?

This is the first of four games this weekend where a side who played in Opening Round takes on one who kicks off their season.

Will those circumstances mean it advantages the side who've had the hit out or help the more fresh side? This two hours of footy might not be the best guide to that.

GWS were very impressive of that there is no doubting. Perhaps of even more import was that they were challenged until just before the half and then ran away from the Premiers.

You have to like the fact the forward line functioned well because, sans injuries, their backline and midfield are very strong.

If Hogan and Riccardi, Cadman and naturally Toby Greene remain on the park and playing well then that Flag favouritism may well end up justified. That is a big if.

The other Green might well challenge for the Brownlow if he keeps getting 30 and kicking goals.

It's been a pre-season of hope and renewal for North – especially with the trading and drafting afforded them. They MUST take advantage of that.

With Dylan Stephens now given a chance for a consistent/constant run at playing, the new blood firing them up and the kids with another 12 months under their belts like Sheezel, improvement can come fast.

Add to that the far greater likelihood Clarkson is with them all year and 6/7+ wins is very real.

However for all that, GWS just wins and at home, it might be a bit of a gap job. We'll know a lot more after the game weather permitting.

Match Selection: GWS by 43 points

Suggested Bets: Tom Green – Most Disposals Group A @ $3.50 @ bet365
