3 minute read

Racing and Sports will provide analysis of games in the 2024 AFL Season.

We'll endeavour to run through the form, incorporate appropriate stats and also supply a betting prediction which won't always just be who will win.

ST KILDA v COLLINGWOOD

Thursday 21 March @ MCG

There are several flashpoint games this weekend so early in the season and the initial outing in Round 2 is definitely one of them.

Whether that be caused by the strange set up of the Opening Round and the impact of some sides playing more games early who knows.

But the Premiers are in a spot of bother should they lose to the Saints and that could easily happen.

St Kilda did lose first up as well but they gave it a red hot go down at the new Cattery and were only thwarted late despite being 4 goals down at times.

That discussion of more speed from them looked real but they need to get that entry more clinical. They will be happy Tim Membrey is back in the groove with the solidity of footy.

Maybe it was credit to Geelong but Crouch, Hill and Wood need to be getting more touches for them to be better equipped.

Whatever they did well, Collingwood did the opposite by comparison against Sydney. 33 points was the margin. It could have almost been double that.

Leading at Quarter Time seems a strange quirk. It was 13 goals to 7 afterwards and that includes 3 late ones. The backs looked askew, the mids a little slow and not much movement in the forward line.

Now that can all change as it's a LONG season. But the switch isn't easily flicked. And sides make you the hunted.

What the Pies have been blessed with is St Kilda is playing a home game at their home ground. That can only help because if this was at Marvel you'd love to tip the Saints.

The last time they did play at the MCG, St Kilda won. But those years around Covid time are weird.

Ross Lyon would love this scenario but the shorter turn around isn't easy. Collingwood JUST HAVE TO WIN. No other matter exists but there will be nervousness.

Match Selection: Collingwood by 13 points

Suggested Bets: Collingwood 1-39 @ $2.15 @ bet365
