The Tigers were so tough in the face of much impairment against Carlton.

Injuries set them back and being an underdog means you need all the assets on deck. Long term ones like that to Josh Gibcus and regular ones like that of Dion Prestia are hurdles they cannot afford.

And yet they were still a puncher's chance late in the last quarter. It might be Cardiac Carlton but Roughie Richmond gave a good go.

They need everyone fit and in form so the more Martin and Lynch get game time can only help. Taranto, Hopper and Bolton just have to do even more work now.

Now they get Port after not having to work as hard as they will need to, in beating West Coast. While the Eagles were a little better than expected, in the end it was the Rozee and Butters show.

If they see quality ball, it has to make the life of Dixon, Finlayson and others much easier.

There is a big difference in terms of preparation here. Richmond has two losses but is now getting some continuity while Port Adelaide is now second up.

Also the Tigers played 10 days ago whereas Port only has 7 days to turn around. Could that be important very late when it matters? It might even them up at the worst.

But playing depth will stake its claim so taking Port Adelaide - only just.
