3 minute read

Racing and Sports will provide analysis of games in the 2024 AFL Season.

We'll endeavour to run through the form, incorporate appropriate stats and also supply a betting prediction which won't always just be who will win.

WEST COAST v GWS

Sunday 24 March @ Optus Stadium

Last game of the weekend is first v last and who knows that is how it might end up at the end of September as well.

After a first period where they had a dip, West Coast couldn't maintain and faded to be done by 50 in Adelaide.

The positive was it looked a little more normal compared to last year. The negative was had Port kicked straighter, it could have been much like last year.

Naturally all the attention was on No 9. Harley Reid must have felt the weight on his shoulders but gave glimpses of what it will be like after a couple more pre-seasons.

It's your Kellys and Yeos and the likes who have to carry the midfield until then. The battle will be long. Now tack on Oscar Allen's injury and alarm bells ring.

GWS don't have those issues at the present. They too were wasteful in getting the job done at home. That can't be the way all year.

The defence will hold up all year injury withheld. And the midfield led by Tom Green just has to take control of most games. It comes down to Hogan and Cadman and Brown helping Toby Greene.

It is likely a very good thing that Greene has had a quiet start to the year so he can build into it.

West Coast plays GWS pretty well. Even last year's woeful efforts included a win against the Giants at this venue essentially 12 months ago to the week.

But reality kicks in here in assessing the outcome. One is repairing itself and the other is contending. It should see a big margin at the siren.

Match Selection: GWS by 63 points

Suggested Bets: GWS 50+ @ $2.00 @ bet365
