2024 AFL Round 4 Preview – WEST COAST v SYDNEY

3 minute read

Racing and Sports will provide analysis of games in the 2024 AFL Season.

We'll endeavour to run through the form, incorporate appropriate stats and also supply a betting prediction which won't always just be who will win.

WEST COAST v SYDNEY

Saturday 6 April @ Mount Barker

This used to be the drawcard for a decade. So many close, ridiculously hard fought matches.

In Gather Round it has been hidden away as the first of the Saturday country games and rightly so.

West Coast is a rabble at present. They can play a quarter at their best and a half at most but thereafter become uncompetitive.

Only 2 points down at Quarter Time against the Bulldogs, they didn't score another goal until midway through the last and ended up 3.12.

Some will laugh at the call for a Priority Pick but if this was a Melbourne side or one the AFL needed to support, they'd be getting two, not one.

On top of what they are dishing up, they now have to play Sydney who will be very annoyed at losing to Richmond.

Not so much that they were overtly poor, just that they didn't bring the same quality as they had done the prior three games.

A lot more bombing into the forward line rather than precise, incisive kicking. Richmond did well but Sydney won't want to play like that again.

Assuming Longmire pours the heat on them this week, it could get nasty.

Watch for a big score if West Coast doesn't start well. Just remember back to last year when it was 205 to 34 at the SCG.

Can't see that here but it could still be 70 plus (weather permitting) even if Dane Rampe is an out.

Match Selection: Sydney by 75 points

Suggested Bets: Sydney 70+ @ $2.50 @ bet365
