3 minute read

Racing and Sports will provide analysis of games in the 2024 AFL Season.

We'll endeavour to run through the form, incorporate appropriate stats and also supply a betting prediction which won't always just be who will win.

MELBOURNE v BRISBANE

Thursday 11 April @ MCG

Good way to start the round with sides who have met twice in recent final series.

However one is trying to rebound at present while the other has shown some resilience already.

Melbourne would have been going into the double Adelaide stretch with a degree of trepidation. They come out of it with two tight victories and sit equal ladder leaders.

Given how Adelaide has started you knew it would be competitive but from halfway through the second it was fairly secure.

The good news was it hasn't had to be Clayton Oliver all the time. His time will come later in the year when there are even bigger stakes.

They just can't afford for Pickett or others to keep getting suspensions.

Brisbane enters off a win but it was barely a training exercise. North were horrible from the start and got progressively worse.

At least Joe Daniher got back into some confident ways but maybe more so Hipwood and Cameron at least finding the big sticks.

Daniher may be needed to do some rucking with Gawn there and that can impact elsewhere.

Brisbane's record at the MCG is whatever the opposite of brilliant is. Since 2009 they have recorded 3 wins and 1 draw – the rest LOSSES.

You can't see anything other than that trend continuing and maybe a nice little margin too. It might have been bigger if Pickett was there and not in the stands.

Match Selection: Melbourne by 33 points

Suggested Bets: Melbourne 30+ @ $2.90 @ bet365
