Another match up this round between two losers from Gather Round but at least both were very honourable.

That won't mean much to them but if you haven't looked like being a finalist for a while, you want hope and they showed it against Preliminary Finalists from 2023.

Gold Coast were in front late in the third and still a hope into the last before some late errors and skill from the Giants saw them go down by near 5 goals.

You had to like the way the midfield contested against a contender and how Mac Andrew held ground down back.

They won't be finding as elite a group this week that is for sure.

Those Hawks gave a big start and looked likely to be thrashed by the Pies early but then gave a big yelp and had a hope to win in the last few minutes.

Hardwick up forward with Moore and Newcombe with Worpel gave them a sneaky chance. Just some finishing when needed hurt.

They will still be fluky and it might not be here.

No surprise that Hawthorn would have the wood on the Gold Coast in their history as their existence co-incided with the Flags being won.

But it is 3 of the last 4 in the Suns favour and happy to believe they can add to this here at home and in decent form.
