Sides that win when not expected are always talking points and both these get that mantle heading to the Adelaide Oval.
Adelaide's season was on the line against Carlton and halfway through the last stanza it looked over.
But 3 late goals and heroics at the end and the time to breathe began. At 0-5 they were cactus but now they have some life.
In many ways Essendon was the same even though much safer now 3-2 on the ladder. But there is an inconsistency with the Bombers that always seems to pervade them.
And heading into half time things were shaky. Coming off that shambolic effort to Port Adelaide, the berating was about to begin.
But the coach got the moves right and the players responded. Jake Stringer got flowing and the second half was 7 goals to 3.
It was very even across the board which was much better than needing a standout.
