Cricket Australia will continue to push to host India-Pakistan matches, despite a proposal for a triangular series next summer being rejected.

Cricket Australia has an open invitation to host matches between mega rivals India and Pakistan, despite a touted triangular series being ruled out next summer.

India will visit Australia for the eagerly anticipated five-Test Border Gavaskar series, following Pakistan's ODI and T20 series against the hosts in November.

A proposal for Australia, India and Pakistan to play a white-ball series against each other was knocked back.

CA has been fully supportive of India and Pakistan playing each other Down Under since the countries battled it out in a classic in front of 90,293 fans at the MCG during the 2022 Twenty20 World Cup.

The rivalry has been restricted to major tournaments in recent times, having not played each other in a bilateral series since 2012 due to ongoing political tension between the countries.

CA boss Nick Hockley called the international schedule "very full" and "really complex".

"Anyone that was here for the India-Pakistan game at the MCG, it will go down as one of the most memorable occasions, not just sporting occasions, that I've ever been to," he said at the MCG on Wednesday.

"People want to see that contest.

"Would we like to host that? We would love to host that if the opportunity arose.

"That's not a possibility here this summer."

Hockley said CA would like to help with the complex India-Pakistan situation in any way possible.

"In many ways it's a bilateral series, so it's really for others to make that happen, but to the extent to which we can help, we'd love to do so," he said.

The Australian men's team will also continue to be "good tourists" as financial pressure affects nations outside of India, England and Australia.

"It's incumbent on us to work together to make sure the pinnacle format of the game is going from strength to strength in all countries," Hockley said.

"That is a real topic of discussion around the (International Cricket Council) table."
