AUSTRALIA v PAKISTAN, First Benaud-Qadir Trophy Test, Optus Stadium, Day three.

SCORE: Australia 487 (David Warner 164, Aamer Jamal 6-111) & 2-84 (Steve Smith 43no, Khurram Shahzad 2-19), Pakistan 271 (Imam-ul-Haq 62, Nathan Lyon 3-66)

SUMMARY: Pakistan started the day brightly as Imam-ul-Haq and star batter Babar Azam built steadily. But the tourists lost their way after Babar was dismissed by Mitch Marsh, losing 3-14 just before lunch. Pakistan fell 216 runs behind after the first innings, but they came out breathing fire when Australia batted again. Shaheen Afridi and Khurram Shahzad bowled beautifully to restrict the hosts to 2-5. But Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith responded well to build an unbeaten 79-run partnership.

PLAYER OF THE MOMENT: Nathan Lyon. He was left stranded on 499 Test wickets, but the star spinner has made a faultless return after seriously injuring his calf during the Ashes. In his first Test since June, Lyon was Australia's leading wicket-taker on a typically pace-friendly pitch in Perth.

STAT OF THE DAY: David Warner followed up his blistering 164 on Thursday with a second-innings duck. It is the first time Warner has scored a century and a duck in the same Test.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Australia's Golden Boy has just turned into the villain." - Ricky Ponting commentating on the Seven Network after World Cup hero Travis Head took the final wicket of Pakistan's innings to deny Lyon his 500th scalp.
