George Kambosos Jr is the bookies' underdog but legendary trainer Johnny Lewis believes the Australian will win his undisputed world lightweight title fight.
Now he's made the weight, Johnny Lewis is convinced George Kambosos Jr will take another giant stride towards becoming Australia's greatest boxer with victory in Sunday's undisputed lightweight world title fight with American Devin Haney.
Lewis believes Kambosos will be hungry enough to defend his WBA, WBO and IBF belts that he seized from Teofimo Lopez at Madison Square Gardens and capture Haney's WBC strap as well at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium.
If he does, the Sydney fighter will become only the eighth man to be an undisputed champion of the world in the 18-year era of four divisional belts.
"It's remarkable." Lewis told AAP before predicting how the blockbuster will unfold.
"I think Haney might try to steal it with his boxing but I'm leaning towards a lot of improvement in George.
"George has got that certain something and to be champion of the world is not something he is going to give up. He loves it.
"He loves being champion of the world and I feel that we're going to see an even better George Kambosos this time out than when he won the title."
Lewis, the legendary trainer and former corner man of Kostya Tszyu and Jeff Fenech, believes Kambosos (20-0, 10KO) could even stop Haney (27-0, 15KO).
"If George can take control and dictate the fight early, and I mean in the first two rounds, there's a big chance that he might stop him near the end," Lewis said.
"But I'm sure that George will win the fight."
Kambosos survived a scare at Saturday's dramatic weigh-in, initially exceeding the 135lb limit.
The 28-year-old hit the scales at 135.36 pounds before weighing in at 134.46 pounds 70 minutes later following a hot shower.
"Changes nothing. It changes his mindset now. Trust me. Art of war. Deception," Kambosos said.
"Bring it on. More than ready. Let's go."
Kambosos already believes he's Australia's greatest ever boxer, but Lewis says that's premature.
"Let's just say that George is on the way to being on the threshold of being up there with Kostya and Fenech as Australia's greatest modern-day fighters," Lewis said.
"If he's champion this time next year, you've got to say he's up there with them.
"I wouldn't be looking for comparisons now. The emphasis on George is to turn back every challenge that comes his way.
"Then when it's all over you can sit back and go through it all."
