Aussies win rugby sevens opener in London

3 minute read

Australia have started their Rugby Sevens campaign in London with a 22-10 win over Wales at Twickenham.

Australia have kicked off their Twickenham Rugby Sevens campaign with a comfortable 22-10 win over Wales.

Two tries from winger Henry Hutchison spearheaded the win with Sam Figg and Pama Fou also getting their names on the score sheet.

The Aussies started slowly but soon found their polish with some slick ball movement out to both wings.

Jesse Parahi set up Hutchison's first after two minutes following some clever work at the breakdown.

Hutchison scored on the same blade of grass late in the first half with the Aussies again successfully targeting Wales' right-hand side defence.

The Aussies put the game beyond reach through Figg in the second half, and Fou rounded out the Australian scoring after latching onto a pinpoint cross-field kick.

A second-half double to Owen Jenkins kept things respectable for Wales.

Australia next play England later on Saturday.
