What a fantastic racehorse.

The Fellow ran in the King George VI Chase on five consecutive occasions from 1990, finishing third as a five-year-old on his first visit to Kempton Park - placing behind Desert Orchid and Toby Tobias. His two victories followed, before another third-placed finish in 1993 before pulling up three from home in 1994.

The Fellow is arguably best known for his Cheltenham Gold Cup exploits. He first ran in the race in 1991 as a young six-year-old, yet despite his 28/1 starting price was just denied by Garrison Savannah. The following year, The Fellow was again beaten a short head, this time by Cool Ground.

After this 1992 King George triumph, The Fellow was sent off a short price to make it third time lucky in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. However, he was well-beaten back in fourth behind Jodami and his jockey Adam Kondrat was heavily criticised by members of the racing press who felt he had kept the horse too far off the pace.

Kondrat tasted sweet redemption the following year though, finally landing the Cheltenham Gold Cup at the fourth attempt and at odds of 7/1. The Fellow is one of only two horses 8along with Mandarin) to win the Grande-Steeple Chase de Paris and the Cheltenham Gold Cup and his wonderful career was masterminded by trainer Francois Doumen. The Fellow was owned by the Marquesa De Moratalla.
