Flemington to suit Sacred Eye: Dabernig

Tom Dabernig expects Sacred Eye to be suited at Flemington when the filly chases her first black-type win in the Edward Manifold Stakes.

Lightly raced Sacred Eye is favourite to turn the tables on Don't Doubt Mamma when the fillies clash for a second time in the Group Two Edward Manifold Stakes.

Sacred Eye scored an impressive 3-1/4 length maiden win at Geelong before powering home late for second to Don't Doubt Mamma over 1400m at Caulfield two weeks ago.

Don't Doubt Mamma is now rated one of the top chances to win the Thousand Guineas.

Trainer David Hayes is hoping Sacred Eye is his stable's Oaks filly and co-trainer Tom Dabernig rates the daughter of High Chaparral.

Sacred Eye is the $3.80 favourite to win her stakes debut in Sunday's Edward Manifold (1600m) at Flemington with Don't Doubt Mamma at $4.80.

Last-start winner Badawiya ($5.50) and her Mick Price-trained stablemate Sailing By ($6) are also at single-figure odds.

"Flemington should be to her liking and she's definitely an exciting horse," Dabernig said of Sacred Eye.

"She's only had the two starts and was impressive winning her maiden and last start was still green but she was a real eye-catcher finding the line.

"She's got the ability to perform at that level and she's just going to get better with time."

The Hayes and Dabernig team also has stakes-placed Air Apparent in the race and have opted for a gear change on the filly.

Air Apparent broke through for a maiden win last start at Benalla but made hard work of it as an odds-on favourite and blinkers will replace winkers on the $21 chance.

"She's giving the indication she's looking for more ground so I think she'll like the 1600 metres," Dabernig said.

"Her work has improved in the blinkers."
