Mick Kent-trained, New Zealand-bred four-year-old Princeton Spirit staged a really promising effort in winning here on debut. He was smartly away from his wide barrier (11) and then eased to settle in third place, tracking a good tempo. He moved up nicely to take the lead at the 200m and then held on to win well, seemingly with something in hand. Circomo, a colt from the Lee and Anthony Freedman stable, also went well on debut. He settled in eighth place, improved (deep) nearing the home turn, challenged at the 100m and kept running on well for a good second in a promising performance.
