German-bred import Lips Areios put up a very promising effort in winning at his first start since joining the Darren Weir stable. Having his first run since sixth in a Class Two (2050m) on the Beaumont track at Newcastle in July, he began well from his outside barrier (11) and settled in fourth place, one off the rails with cover, behind a good tempo. He moved up (deep) from the 600m, got to the front on turning for home and then went on to win comfortably. He is a horse to watch.
