This Listed 3yo mile showed that the North Island trained runners as usual are dominant with the trifecta in this. Two last start maiden winners in the North Island formed the quinella and a last start maiden winner in the South Island but North Island prepared formed the trifecta. Ever Loyal won easily after moving up to sit second the outer and was travelling that well his rider took the front before the home turn and then strode away. The Australian bred gelding ended up winning by a length and a quarter to clock 1:35.75 and win his second race and first attempt at Stakes grade. The time was just over five lengths superior to the Ratings 65 last race on the card for older horses. Scott Base did well for second after settling down fourth last and ran home strongly closer in to reach second at the 200m before pulling back substantial ground on the winner at the line. Swing Note did well from midfield and will appreciate meeting the girls only in the G1 1000 Guineas on November 11 but then again it means she faces the hotpot Prom Queen that has already beaten easily come of the colts and geldings. The Sparkle and The Lustre were far from disgraced in finishing fourth and sixth respectively. River Run for a maiden is racing well and finished an honest fifth, so he would be odds on back to the dunce grade. The rest were either disappointing or outclassed. Zentessa got warm very late in the race and would be a strong bet back against all maidens. The top two are now legitimate G1 2000 Guineas contenders as they have form on dry ground and on the track plus at the trip this race is contested.
