In a surprise result, the Godolphin-raced filly Lyre scored at $26. Having her third start after winning a Sale 2yo fillies' maiden (1100m) at Sale on Jan 20, she settled in seventh place (wide with cover), switched out on straightening, sprinted well, challenged at the 100m and finished a bit too well for a smart win. Vinicunca showed good pace from her outside barrier (12) to lead. She grabbed a break on straightening and then fought back gamely for (long neck) second in a bold first-up performance. Athiri raced in fourth place, wide without cover, moved up well at the 200m and then battled gamely for a close up third after a difficult trip. Lankan Star was and handy fourth, between runners and held on well for (2.2 lengths) fourth while Brooklyn Hustle made late ground from ninth at the home turn for fifth, beaten 3 lengths. The favourite Catch Me raced outside the leader (Vinicunca) but faded in the straight for (6.9 lengths) tenth, her first defeat in three starts.
