Almost seven years after Not A Single Doubt opened his stakes account as a sire, Perth star Scales Of Justice brought up a milestone 90th stakes victory for the leading stallion in Saturday's G3 Hyperion Stakes at Belmont.
The Lindsey Smith-trained Scales Of Justice out-classed his eight rivals for his eighth career win and his third Group victory for owners Chris Wells and Bill Andrews.
Scales Of Justice won the G1 Railway Stakes and G3 RJ Peters Stakes last year and has won or placed in all of his 16 starts for more than $1.2 million prizemoney.Bred by Gerard and Kathy Hammond, Scales Of Justice was bought for $180,000 by agent Craig Rounsefell's Boomer Bloodstock and trainer Lindsey Smith at the 2014 Melbourne Premier Sale.Not A Single Doubt has followed up his spectacular 2015/16 season with career-best numbers in most categories this season including 15 winners of 25 stakes races and four G1 winners (Secret Agenda, Clearly Innocent, Extreme Choice, Scales Of Justice).
Scales Of Justice is one of seven Group One winners and 43 stakes winners by Not A Single Doubt.Not A Single Doubt's $11.1 million earnings this season have him in fourth position on the Australian General Sires' premiership behind SNitgzel, Street Cry and Fastnet Rock.
Scales Of Justice is out of the unraced mare Beymatilla (Umatilla), a half-sister to stakesplaced Rancho Rose (Rancho Ruler) and the winning mare My Nancy (Noalcoholic), dam of G3 Standish Handicap winner King Hoaks (King Charlemagne).Beymatilla has had four foals to race, all of them winners, including Scales Of Justice and Listed placegettert Cruyfforme (Johan Cruyff).
She had a Gio Ponti filly die after birth and she missed to Artie Schiller in 2013. She was covered by Reward For Effort in 2014 and Magnus in 2015.• STREET Cry’s classy daughter Maternal became the late stallion’s 111th stakes winner when she was successful in the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich last Saturday.
Street Cry, who died in 2014, was Australia’s champion sire in 2015-2016 and wil finish second to Snitzel in the current season.Maternal is the result of Street Cry’s mating with the four-time Group One winner Divine Madonna.
The Darley home-bred has now compiled six wins and five placings for $235,885 in stakes with victories in Victoria, NSW and Queensland.Street Cry’s death was a massive loss as the son Machiavellian, winner of the 2002 Dubai World Cup, has amassed an incredible record at stud.
Since his death he has had 38 of his 157 runners capture black type races.During that period his progeny has amassed over $25 million with champion mare Winx making up a good portion with nearly $13 million alone.
His other G1 winners since his death include Heavens Above, Pride Of Dubai and Stay With Me in Australia.Divine Madonna, by Hurricane Sky, won the G1 Emirates Stakes, G1 Queen of the Turf, G1 Toorak Handicap and G1 Myer Classic in the space of 12 months and retired to stud with earnings of just over $2 million.
She was purchased by Darley at the 2008 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $2.7 million and since been sent to Redoute’s Choice for the first two seasons then to Lonhro,Maternal is Divine Madonna’s fourth foal and her highest achiever to date. Her other winners include the stakes placed La Pieta and multiple winner Sanzio.
Divine Madonna has a rising 2YO filly by Exceed And Excel and is currently in foal to Medaglia d’Oro.Divine Madonna herself is a three-quarters sister to the dual G3 winner Blessum (Umatilla) and Pieta, who produced G3 winner and G1-placed Angel Of Mercy (Hussonet).
