Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

Picture: Korea Racing Authority

Fillies only in the opening maiden and there will be a strong favourite. (6) COMPLETE PARTY has two 3rd places and a 4th among five starts so far and the fastest time among these for the 1200M by a considerable margin. In this company, she can settle just behind the early speed and should prove too strong. (1) BYLONG STAR was 6th to Complete Party's 4th when they raced each other at 1200M on April 14th. She has certainly shown more in trials than she has at the races, but it marked an improvement, and we could see more here. (9) JANGBI DAEUN debuted fairly back in December and while she hasn't raced since, she looked well in an April trial and can be a danger. (8) HERO GOLD and (3) STUNNING QUEEN other placing chances.

(6) BREEDO KING STAR has two 3rd places and a 4th from his latest three, all at 1400M. In this company he can be expected to be on the pace, and he has every chance of going all the way. (9) DONKEY PLAY wasn't fancied at all on debut after an undistinguished trial, but she ran a close 2nd over 1200M, coming from off the pace. She should have derived benefit from that experience and while this field is stronger, she could match that or even go one better. Like Breedo King Star, (7) BOLLIN has two 3rd places in his record including at this distance last time out on April 20th. He comes in under the same weight and warrants consideration. (10) TOHOMARKET and (8) WONDERFUL JET others in the frame.

(2) FLYING THE FORD did nothing in his first two starts in December and February, but after going back and winning a trial, re-emerged at this distance on April 12th and led for much of the way before finishing 2nd. He draws very nicely to get to the lead here and he will be favourite to go one better. There are three debut-makers and among them, (7) WONDERFUL BIDDER makes for the most appeal. He trialled in October and then again at the end of April, crossing the line in 2nd place in both in good times. This is a great race to debut in and he can be close. (8) SHINING MORNING comes in off back-to-back 3rd place finishes over 1300M and 1200M in contrasting styles. She continues under a light weight and Choi Si-dae climbs up. (4) WORLD ANGEL CAT and (9) THE BIG SHOT are others to consider.

(10) USEUNG CONCORD got a 3rd and then a 2nd in two outings late last summer before returning in April and getting his maiden win at start number three over 1200M. Up in class here, he should strip fitter for that run and the step up in trip can suit. He'll be a short-price favourite. (7) BAEKRYONG remains a maiden after ten attempts but has had plenty of near misses including his last start 2nd at 1300M when trying this distance for the first time. He comes up 2kg in the weights but can be in the mix again. (4) THE SUN FIGHTER similarly enters with recent form reading well. He has the fastest final furlong average time among these and an apprentice claiming 3kg should make him more than competitive. (1) BAEDARI HYANGGI is up in class following a maiden win over this trip on April 7th and he can measure up. (11) STAR RUSH another to consider.

Busan Race 2: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

Fillies only here. (3) SEKWANG CHOEGANG is yet to win but has five top-three finishes from seven starts with a 3rd and a 2nd from her latest two, both at 1200M at this class. She has a strong finish on her and having already placed at 1300M, the slight step back up in trip can suit. (6) FLEX DAY took a couple of goes to get used to this level but ran well for 2nd over this distance on April 19th. She comes up 3kg in this company, but a similar effort will see her as a major danger here. (1) RED JASPER is, like Sekwang Choegang, still a maiden and she can mix her form, but she comes in off a last start 3rd place in a similar all filly race over 1400M and from a nice gate and still under a light weight, she shouldn't be dismissed. (4) JINJU BIT and (2) JAZZ STAR among others in the placing hunt.

(5) MANDAERO was a winner on debut and since then has proven competitive at this level, most recently registering a runner-up finish over 1400M on April 27th when racing on pace. He has good early speed so should get to the lead again, and this time he can go all the way. The main danger is in the adjoining gate. (6) YONGAM MARENGO is yet to win but has five top-three finishes among his seven outings including last time out on April 21st when beating three of today's rivals on his way to 2nd place in a quick race at this class and distance. He comes in under the same weight and can be a danger again. (8) JANGGUN BYEOL and (9) NAOL DAEWANG were among those behind Yongam Marengo in that April 21st race, and both can seek to get closer here with CC climbing on the former. The up in class last start winner (3) THUNDER SPEED another in the hunt.

(5) HUNTER DRAGON got promoted to this level with a couple of near misses and then got his maiden win at start number four over 1800M on April 19th when handy throughout and beating three of today's rivals. His two runner-up finishes came over today's distance of a mile and while he is up 3.5kg in the weights, he is favoured to win again. (7) MAX THE CAT is the danger. He was a maiden winner over this distance two starts back before running a fair 5th of twelve on his first try at this level on April 28th. He comes in nicely weighted and will be finishing strongly. (3) BLUE POINT comes up in class after back-to-back runner-up finishes over this distance. He is down in the weights, draws well, and he can measure up in this company. (12) QUEEN OF JOY and (9) SEOBU VISION other placing chances.

Seoul Race 5: Class 4 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

Competitive race. (9) COSMO RUN has four top-two finishes from six starts so far including a runner-up finish last time out on March 30th at this class over 1300M. He raced ungenerously in the home straight to the extent that he was ordered back to trial, which he came through in fine order last week, and if he remembers his racing manners, he can win here. (11) GLADIUS races for the first time since finishing very much an also-ran in the Luna Stakes, the first leg of the Triple Tiara, at the end of March. She is a winner at this distance at class 5 level and under a light weight and back in shallower waters, she should return to contention here. (3) AGAPANTHUS can mix his form but placed at this class over 1300M two starts back and looks nicely in here. (5) GEUMAK STAR and (7) LEGEND K among plenty of other placing chances.

(5) TAEWANG SINGI is the one to beat here. He has been working his way towards a win in three starts at this level, most recently running 2nd over this distance on April 19th when as is his preference, he was close to the pace throughout. He only come sup 1.5kg in the weights, he draws well to lead again, and he can go one better here. (7) FINAL SEVEN is an interesting one. He has two 3rd places from his latest three, both over this distance and both at class 3 level. While that suggests that he likes carrying a light weight, an apprentice is engaged for him dropping back to his own grade here and that weight allowance can help him to challenge. The rest are going to need to improve on recent form. (8) SEONGSIL STAR enters off a fair 5th last time out. He has the fastest final furlong average time among these and can be a threat. (11) RAP VERSA and (1) NAYANA are better than their respective latest starts suggest.

Selections (5) Taewang Singi (7) Final Seven (8) Seongsil Star (11) Rap Versa

Seoul Race 6: Class 3 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

(9) BLUE LEMON won back-to-back races in February and March, the latter at this class over 1200M. She then recorded a creditable 5th of fourteen in a valuable race, again at 1200M, on April 14th. She carries more weight this time and she comes up to 1400M for the first time, but neither should be an issue, and she can win again. (10) COWBOY TANGO also went around in that trophy race but was slow away and never featured. We'll draw a line through that and instead go on his runner-up finish at this class and distance two starts back and we can give the veteran another chance. (8) J S ROAD is a winner of four from six so far and comes up in class following a win over 1300M in a decent time on April 14th. He is down in the weights and can be competitive. (3) SAENAE POWERFUUL and (6) KING HONOR are others in the frame.

Fillies and mares only and another race with a warm favourite. (6) JANGSAN DEFI returned from over three months out to run 2nd in a very similar race at class and distance on April 26th racing handy throughout. She comes up 2.5kg in the weights but she draws better and should strip fitter for that run. (10) GEUMA HIGE HIT will be second favourite. She has mixed her form of late, but she has won over this distance and in this company, she should be close. (8) HAENGBOKAN HAMAN's recent campaign has been interesting, most recently an eyebrow raising shy at the class 1 stumps which though unsuccessful wasn't actually a bad run. Coming up to 1800M for the first time, she could do anything. (5) BABEL HEART and (2) STELL LUNA others to consider.

Seoul Race 7: Class Open (2000M) Special Weight B / Sports Chosun Trophy (L) / KRW 200 Million

This is essentially a class 2 level race with a Listed label attached and a big cheque to the winner. In that regard it is similar to the CHIA Trophy over a mile on April 14th which attracted a very similar set of runners. The best of those to return here is (14) NEULGAEUL, who was 2nd in that race, coming from well off the pace. At the start before he won over 1800M at class 3 level and has a total of nine top-two finishes from thirteen starts. His running style suggests the wide draw is not a problem, and Moon Se-young rides. He will be favourite. (7) GANGPUNGMA was 3rd in the CHIA Trophy. A winner of five from ten, he won back-to-back races at 1800M up to class 3 level earlier this year and under a light weight, shapes as a real danger. (8) FIRE POWER was a winner at this distance on March 30th, beating a few of these in the process. He carries plenty here but has run well under similar weight in the past and shouldn't be dismissed. (5) SPO BLADE and (11) WONDERFUL DEVIL among lots of others who could have a say.

Selections (14) Neulgaeul (7) Gangpungma (8) Fire Power (5) Spo Blade

(7) YEONGGWANGUI ACE returned from an almost eleven-month absence on April 19th to score right away at this class over 1200M. He comes back up to a distance at which he has a win and two placings from three attempts and while he carries an additional 4kg, he should have come on for that run last month and he can win again. (1) SOUTHERN KING was a class and distance winner two starts back before running 3rd on April 5th carrying a similar weight to today. He draws very nicely here and should be in the mix. (10) NORTHERN BID won a valuable trophy race over 1200M on April 14th, settling midfield and running on. He carries his fair share of weight here and he has to contend with the widest gate, but he should be competitive. (5) HONOR CAL and (4) PEOPLE POWER among the other placing chances.

Seoul Race 8: Class Open (1200M) Weight for Age / SROA Chairman's Sprint (KOR G2) / KRW 700 Million

The third leg of the Sprint Series. (6) BEOLMAUI STAR seems to have problems with his start everywhere except Seoul and he returned to form in emphatic style to win the SBS Sports Sprint on April 14th leading every step of the way and beating most of today's rivals. If he gets out of the gate well, last year's Korea Sprint runner-up will be very hard to beat. CC Wong getting legged up on (8) EOMA EOMA. After a lacklustre run in the Busan Ilbo, he returned to form with a close 2nd to Beolmaui Star in the SBS and he should never be ruled out of another big run. (2) RAON THE POINT and (13) SOMETHING LOST came home 1st and 2nd in the Busan Ilbo. The former didn't impress in the SBS but draws better today and is worth another chance. Something Lost ran 3rd in the SBS and while in his case, today's gate is less advantageous, he shouldn't be ruled out. (3) VICS GO won the Listed Segye Ilbo Trophy at this distance on February before going back up to 2000M. He is drawn nicely and can be competitive.

(4) LUCKIEST GIRL returned from five months off to pick up from where she left off and win in a valuable trophy race over 1800M. That brings her up to class 1 after just five starts and also to 2000M for the first time, but she comes down 5kg in the weights and she can continue on her merry way here. (8) JESSIEUI KKUM also returned form a lengthy absence on March 31st to run 2nd at this class and distance. He should have derived benefit from that run and can challenge here. (3) FANTASTIC MAN won that March 31st race and while a subsequent outing at the end of April wasn't successful, he can be given another chance here. (2) CAPTAIN YANKEE and (6) DAEJI CHOICE are others in the hunt.

He has had twelve weeks off since then, Franco gets the call up, and he can win. (5) GLOBAL MENI is a winner of two from six and was second on his first try at class and distance on April 21st in a time faster than any of the rest of these have achieved for the distance. He looks very nicely in here and is a big danger. (3) HERE I AM has won his latest two most recently at this class and distance on March 31st when leading every step of the way. He comes up 4kg in the weights but draws well and mustn't be dismissed. (8) DIRT SURFER and (1) TAEPYEONG HERO, the latter coming out of the KRA Cup Mile, are others to keep safe.

She carries a light weight, she draws well, and Moon Se-young gets on. She can win. That will mean overturning the form on (1) SECRET PLAY, who won that March 23rd race at 17/1. He comes up 4kg in the weights, but that is balanced a little by a much better draw, and he can't be dismissed. (5) WONDERFUL WEEK comes in having run 2nd in a very quick race over 1200M on April 21st, coming from well off the pace. She is one for one at this distance.
