U.S. Racing Goes International

3 minute read

The world's richest race, the Saudi Cup, took place this weekend with a large and prestigious contingent of big names from North American racing lighting up the field.

1/ST is helping to lead the way on the growing international participation with its promotion of prestigious events like the Pegasus and the new California Crown.

The pre-race favourite was White Abarrio , who had been catching the eye at the track in Riyadh this week. In his earlier racing days, the grey picked up both Holy Bull and Fountain of Youth Stakes on his way to an easy win in the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita Park, back in November 2023.

As the race unfolded, this year's Pegasus World Cup winner, National Treasure who also triumphed in the Preakness Stakes the previous year, was in the mix for the main race for a while (and ended up fourth) but no-one could cope in the home stretch with the Pegasus fast finishing runner-up, Senor Buscador. This time round his pace prevailed as he got his head marginally in front of last year's Dubai World Cup winner, Ushba Tesoro.
