Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly

3 minute read

There was a thunderstorm late Saturday at Chantilly and the possibility of another later on Sunday.

At present the going is rated as good so let's hope that it will stay that way as there is some great racing in store.

The Group races start with the G3 Prix de Royaumont for 3yo fillies over 2400m and 7 to go to post.  Hidden Dimples is a daughter of Frankel and is with Andre Fabre who has put Mikael Barzalona on.  They are on 10/11.  Stablemate Manisha is by Lope de Vega and will be ridden by Hugo Bernier and they are on 9/2.

The Grand Prix de Chantilly is over 2400m and will have 9 runners.  Naturally we have to support Mare Australis as she is by Australia and will be ridden by Olivier Peslier for

Andre Fabre -they are on 5/2.  Grocer Jack is an interesting runner having been trained in Germany until recently when he went to William Haggas.  This is his second start for the new stable and Tom Marquand will be on board.  They are on 5/1, and we also like Fenelon who has been very consistent in provincial races and is on 4/1.

The Jockey Club is over 2100m these days and this year's edition has 15 runners.  There are two outstanding horses here – the Godolphin Modern Games for Appleby Buick who won the Guineas and is on 5/2, and Al Hakeem for Rouget – Demuro, a course and distance winner who has an impressive turn of foot.

We are going wide for the other tips – Onesto for Chappet-Pasquier on 11/1 on the strength of a good finish in the trial at Saint Cloud, and Yoazuna by Japanese sire Kizuna, for Ferland-Peslier.  He was second to Al Hakeem and although that was by 5 lengths he should have gained from that run so he's 40/1!

There are 2 more group races on the card – the Prix de Sandringham G2 for 3yo fillies over 1600m and the Prix Gros-Chêne G2 over the 1000m.

In the former Haggas-Marquand are raiding with Purplepay, by Zarak, on 3/2.  Sicilian Defense is on 9/2 and Hot Queen 6/1.

The Sprint has Berneuli on 5/2 on his first start since finishing second in the Al Quoz at Meydan.  Irish raider Brostaigh is on 4/1 as is English raider Saint Lawrence for Roger Varian and James Doyle.
