Can Lucinda Russell get the double?

3 minute read

The Scottish Grand National will be run at Ayr on Saturday.

Scottish trainer Lucinda Russell and her able jockey Derek Fox have a great chance of getting the GN double here with Your Own Story.

He's quoted at 8/1 behind Kitty's Light and Monbeg Genius on 4/1, but we love a good story and Your Own Story would be a very good story indeed.  Not exactly a roughie but we also like Flash Collanges here on 10/1.

Down south at Newbury we have 3 G3s that are worthy of attention.  The John Porter is over 2400m and has 8 runners headed by the odds-on Hurricane Lane for the Appleby-Buick combo.  Mojo Star is on 4/1 for the in-form Burke-Stott pairing and Isar 6/11 for the Gosdens with Crawley riding.

The Fred Darling is over 1400m and Bridestones who won on debut is on top here on 7/2 for Gosdens-Buick.  Magical Sunset is on 9/2 and Swingalong 5/1.

The Greenham is over the 1400m straight course and has 11 3yos participating.  Chaldean is rumoured to be special and is on 8/11 for Andrew Balding and Frankie Dettori.  Knight is on 13/2 for the Crisfords with James Doyle on board and we rather like a roughie here in Streets of Gold who is unbeaten on 5 outings to date for Eve Johnston-Haughton and Charles Bishop with the quote of 12/1  very tempting.

During the week Indestructible won the Craven over 2000m from The Foxes and Dancing Magic.  He will now be up in the market for the 2000 Guineas where currently Auguste Rodin is 11/4 favourite.

And a word about Canberra Legend, who is named after our home base, and was the winner of a listed race over 1800m at Newmarket.  He's by Australian out of a Fastnet Rock mare and is in the hands of James Ferguson and is owned by Hong Kong's Boniface Ho.  He's 25/1 for the Guineas and also has entries for the Dante and the Derby.
