Hong Kong Macau Trophy at Sha Tin Saturday

3 minute read

One wonders if this contest is still a worthy fixture for the Hong Kong Calendar.

It may be an historic one but the standard of Macau racing has gone down considerably in recent years.

Race 7 is the Hong Kong Macau Trophy over 1400m and certainly there is an odds-on favourite here in Beauty Eternal (Size-Purton) it's billed as Class 1 but the 3 runners from Macau are way down in the market and not expected to challenge.  However strange things happen in racing so who knows.

Stablemate of the favourite Red Lion is on 13.0 with Badel riding and we also like Beluga on 27.0 for David Hall and Hugh Bowman.

News just out that jockeys Vagner Borges and Silvestre de Sousa have been disqualified for 12 months and 10 months respectively for their involvement in a bet on Young Brilliant in Race 6 at Happy Valley on 26 April.  This of course is a big "no no" in Hong Kong (and most other racing jurisdictions) and the stewards took into account the pleas of guilty and that neither jockey had been involved in a similar offence.
