Guineas Day at Longchamp

3 minute read

On ground described as heavy we have a chance to look at the 3yos.

The colts run in the Prix d'essai des Poulains and the fillies in the Prix d'essai des Pouliches.

The first of these G1s is for the 3yo colts and is over the 1600m.  10 are lining up and there are a couple of raiders worthy of note – Isaac Shelby who won the Greenham by 3 lengths and is on 5/2 (Meehan-Levey) and Hans Anderson, a Frankel colt with Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore will be riding.

However local American Flag is 2/1 favourite and will probably stay at that price.  He's by Wooton Basset and Yann Barberot has booked Soumillon for the ride, with the jockey giving good reports of the horse's work this week.  He won the Prix Fontainbleau by 2.5 lengths.

The Aga Khan's Valimi is by Teofilo and looks like he is a late maturing colt however trainer Rouget could have timed it nicely for this race.  Cristian Demuro rides and they are 8/1.

A real roughie here in Marhaaba Ya Sanafi is by Muhaarer and trained by Andreas Schultz who often produces something that has got under the radar.  He's on 28/1.

The girls are somewhat easier to sort out as the Head family has a long history with this race and now Chris has taken over and will saddle Blue Rose Cen, a Churchill filly who will have the stable jockey Aurelien Lemaitre on board.  She won a G1 last season so there is much anticipation in the start to her 3yo season.  So she's 10/11.

For her bridesmaids we have gone a bit wider and are adding Quickstep, Godolphin's Wooton Basset filly who is with Andre Fabre and Barzalona will ride and their UK price of 16/1 looks very generous.  Irish raider Never Ending Story is by Dubawi and represents the O'Brien-Moore partnership and she's on 7/2.  Lindy is by Le Havre and comes from the yard of C Ferland and will be ridden by Cristian Demuro and they are on 3/1.

The Prix St Alary G1 is also G1 for 3yo fillies and over 2000m.  10 runners.  Carlos Laaffon Parias will saddle Jannah Rose, a Frankel filly who is on 7/4.  The Irish raider Boogie Woogie is by Dubawi and is 9/2 for O'Brien-Moore.  A bit of a pin job for the others – maybe Elusive Princess by Martinborough and a home-bred for trainer J-P Dubois who has Barzalona riding.

Earlier there is the G3 Prix Saint Georges also for 3yos over the sprint 1000m track.  Raider White Lavender for Burke-Marquand is on 15/8 and Forza Capitano is fast and on 8/1 for Pantall-Barzalona.
