Red Knight wins Man o'War at Belmont

3 minute read

Second of our "red" horses for Saturday was Red Knight.

He was ridden by Irad Ortiz with brother Jose-Luis on the second Solder Rising who just nudged out Strong Tide for the second spot.

The Peter Pan went to Arcangelo who started on 11/4 and defeated favourite Bishop's Bay in the 1800m contest.  Henry Q on 9/1 was third home and Slip Mahoney was a non-runner.

Down in Nashville the Irish mounted a successful raid on Percy Warner with Scaramanga winning for Mullins-Townend partnership much to the delight of the Mullins family reps who were present for the race.  This was the Calvin Houghland Iriquois Hurdle where the hot favourite Snap Decision had to settle for second and Scorpion's Revenge was third.

Most people think of Scaramanga as the James Bond villain in "The Man with the Golden Gun" and, way back when, we knew a Nick Scaramanga whose father was a friend of Ian Fleming and hence the name.  He had a bathroom accessories shop in Fulham.
