Das Frühjars Meeting at Baden-Baden

3 minute read

There was some excellent racing on the Iffezheim track as the Baden-Baden season got under way.

To start with there was the 45th Badener Meile G3 over 1600m which saw Calif 6/1 salute after a top ride from the "Flying Dutchman" Adrie de Vries on the Schiergen trained horse.  He won by 5 lengths from Porol with Aemilianus third.

Saturday was the G3 Derby Trial over 2000m and there was a moon shining over Iffezheim that night as the winner was favourite Fantastic Moon with Rene Piecheluk riding for trainer and partner Sarah Steinberg and the second home was Vintage Moon with Straight third on 6/1.  Interesting to note that there was a horse called Quality Road, the same as the sire of Preakness winner National Treasure.

Sunday was the Grosser Preis der Badischer Wirtschaft G2 over 2200m with 6 runners.  Jockey Bauyrzhan Murzabayev is currently based in France but came back to his former country of residence Germany to ride Northern Ruler in this for Andr eas Wöhler and they won 6/1.  Best of Lips 12/1 was second for our mate Andreas Suborics and jockey Augustin Madamet with Mendocino (Steinberg-Piecheluk) third.
