Diane day at Chantilly

3 minute read

The 174th running of the Prix de Diane (French Oaks) will take place at Chantilly Sunday.

It's over 2100m and there are 15 fillies going to post with a good mix of locals and raiders.

Running Lion got scratched by the stewards at the gates in the English Oaks so she is running here with Oisin Murphy riding for the Gosdens.  We thought she was a good thing for the English version so she justifies the 3/1 quote here.

On the same mark is French 1000 Guineas winner Blue Rose Cen for Christopher Head and Lemaitre.  They are just ahead of the Saint-Alary winner Jannah Rose trained by Carlos Laffon-Parias and to be ridden by Soumillon and she is on 4/1.

A couple of wider horses are Elusive Power on 12/1 and Tasmania on 25/1 with Tom Marquand trying to copy his wife Hollie Doyle's history-making win last year on Nashwa.  While Tasmania so far is not in the same class as Nashwa it's quite a big field and anything can happen.

There's some G3s on the undercard – the Prix du Bois is for 2yos over 1200m and there ae 10 of them headed by Baton d'Or from Hugo Palmer's yard with Ben Curtis riding and they are 4/1, as is Zarken who will have Olivier Peslier in the irons.

The Prix du Lys is over 2400m for the 3yos with 7 runners and here there are two horses owned by the Wertheimers who top the market – Maniatic who is with Andre Fabre and Silawi who is with Carlos Laffon-Parias.  2/1 and 11/2.

The Prix Bertrand du Breuil is over 1600m and has 7 runners where Tribalist will probably be favourite.  Yoozuna is madly looking for a win after a series of places!

Chantilly always puts on a great show for these big races so those of us in the Southern Hemisphere who can stay awake should have plenty to watch.
