Irish Oaks Saturday 22 July

3 minute read

The Curragh will be the venue for this G1 and three other group races Saturday.

Starting with the G3 Anglesey Stakes this is for 2yos over 1300m on ground which is described as yielding to soft.  As usual an O'Brien runner is favourite – Pearls And Rubies who is by No Nay Never.  Ryan rides and they are on 5/4.  Kairyu won on debut for trainer/owner Michael O'Callaghan and Colin Keane, who keeps the ride here on this Kuroshio colt.  They are on 7/2.  A roughie here is The Caribbean with Seamie Heffernan on board for Aidan and they are on 22/1 – another No Nay Never.

The Sapphire Stakes is Gr 2 over 1000m and here we like Go Athletico from Ado McGuiness's yard with Keane riding – they are 4/1.  Art Power is 11/8 for Tim Easterby and David Allan and we like White Lavender Burke-Hayes on 5/1.  8 to run.

Then we have the Irish Oaks with a field of 8 running the 2400m trip.  Savethelastdance O'Brien-Moore is by Galileo and on evens.  The stablemate Warm Heart is also by Galileo and is on 7/2 with Heffernan on board, and Bluestocking Beckett-Keane is by Camelot and is on 5/1.

The Curragh Cup is G2 over 2800m with 11 runners headed by Emily Dickinson on 15/8 for O'Brien-Moore.  Rosscarbery is 3/1 for Twomey-Lee and of course we have to put in Gooloogong (by Australia) for O'Brien-Heffernan on 5/1.
