Oh to be in Ireland

3 minute read

Now that summer's there and the rain led to the Curragh being abandoned on Sunday.

SAVETHELASTDANCE winning the Irish Oaks.
SAVETHELASTDANCE winning the Irish Oaks.

However they did get to race on Saturday although the going was described as "soft" which translates is fast getting to bottomless.

Activities got busy with the Anglesey Stakes G3 for the 2yos which went to Kairyu who is by an Aussie sire Kuroshio (now standing in Ireland).  Michael O'Callaghan owns and trains him and Colin Keane was the pilot.  They beat the favourite Pearls and Rubies with Do It In Style doing just that to place third.

The Sapphire Stakes went to the raider Art Power who seems to love being in Ireland and in his wake were Go Athletico and Moss Tucker 10/1.

The Irish Oaks eventually went to the even money favourite Savethelastdance although you could have got 990/1 in the running but the winner found wings and flew home to get the win from Blue Stocking with Library the 80/1 shot third.

Emily Dickinson was too good for the opposition in the Curragh Cup and won by 3 lengths from Rosscarbery with Amusement third at 11/1.
