Thursday at Leopardstown

3 minute read

The Minstrel Stakes will be run here following the abandonment of the Curragh on Sunday.

The ground will be yielding which equates to not quite bottomless.  The forecast isn't that great with Met Éirann forecasting rain – at times heavy – for Thursday.

There are 2 G3 races for the babies to start with.  The first of these is the Jockey Club Turkey Silver Flash Stakes over 1400m for the 2yo fillies with 6 to run over 1400m.  Ylang Ylang is a daughter of Frankel who impressed so much in her debut that she's been made the 2/9 favourite here – Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore.  Donnacha O'Brien saddles Mysteries, a No Nay Never filly who has a bit more experience having had two starts for a win and a third so she's on 11/2.  Gavin Ryan rides.

The Japan Racing Association Tyros Stakes is also over 1400m for the 2yos and here another O'Brien, Joseph, saddles Islandsinthestream, a Wooton Basset who is on 15/8 with Declan McDonogh on board.  He won on debut.  Mountain Bear is by No Nay Never and with Aidan. He's going up in trip which we presume means that they think this will suit as he.s 2/1.

The Minstrel Stakes (what a beautiful horse he was) is also over 1400m but G2 for the 3y+ horses headed by Zarinsk 11/4 from the yard of Ger Lyons with Colin Keane riding.  They won recently at Fairyhouse by 2 ¼ lengths so gain the top spot on 11/4.  There are two on 9/2 – Honey Girl trained by Joseph and Tarawa trained by Dermot Weld for the Aga Khan.  We rather like this horse and may put some of the hard-earned on it.
