King George Day at Ascot

3 minute read

The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes will assemble a star studded field.

It is probably one of the best fields in recent times and the 2400m field is headed by the wonderful Auguste Rodin, the double Derby winning son of Deep Impact.  He's 3/1 on going that is currently rated "soft" but with no rain except for an odd shower on Saturday forecast for the next two days that may not be such a big factor as the connections of Hukum are hoping for.  The other serious rival is King of Steel, who was second at Epsom and won a G2 at Royal Ascot after that.  Hukum and King of Steel are on 7/2.  Emily Upjohn comes into the calculations too and she will have Dettori riding her this time which may shorten her price but she is very lightly raced and this is her third race this prep and while she gets a female's weight allowance the 3yos – Auguste Rodin and King of Steel – have bigger allowances.

The other runner not to be ignored is Pyledriver who won the Harddwick Stakes at Royal Ascot on resumption and who won this last year.  He's on 13/2 which sort of qualifies him for a "roughie".

Earlier the Prince Margaret G3 for the 2yo fillies is over 1600m with a field of 10.  There are three runners on 3/1 – Pretty Crystal, Soprano and Symbology.  We have a slight preference for Soprano.

The Valiant is G3 for f&m also over 1600, with Random Harvest on top on 10/3 with Ameynah and Cadeau Belle on 9/2.  Maybe Cadeau Belle.
