The Nicholas Caullery trained King Gold won the Deauville feature on Sunday under a good ride from Stephan Pasquier.
That was in the Prix Maurice de Gheest G1. Spycatcher was a close second and our roughie Saint Lawrence third on 16/1.
Favourite Art Power was never a factor.
The French have managed to repel the raiders in nearly all their G1 races so far this season.
Earlier the raiders had better luck in the Prix Daphnis when Brave Emperor won for Archie Watson and Luke Morris from our roughie Sosino and favourite Colombier.
