The Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia was there and the mood of the crowd was festive.

This was because Colonial Downs had managed to survive a few years in the wilderness but has come back to life and has now hosted the trio of races that make up the Arlington Million card.

First of these was the Gr 2 Secretariat where there was a big upset when Gigante at 30/1 won for Steve Asmussen and Javier Castellano. Nagirroc was 3 ½ lengths away in second and favourite Silver Knot was third.

The Beverly D went to the favourite Fav Rover giving Javier Castellano a double which should be some consolation for being replaced on Mage.  Didia was a non-runner and second in the 7 runner contest went to Gina Romantica on 2/1.

The Million saw a great run from Set Piece under Florent Geroux to win from Santin 7/1 and Adhamo just tipped out Never Explain for third.
