York Ebor Meeting

3 minute read

The Romans gave us the name for this meeting – Ebor being the Roman name for York.

So the Romans did do something for us and this Wednesday's opening day promises to be a cracker.

Starts off with the G3 Acomb Stakes for the 2yos over 1400m with only 6 starters.  Ballymount Boy is favourite on 9/4 for A P Keatley and Jason Hart.  He's by Camacho and has had two starts one of which he won.  Cogitate is 10/3 for Charlie Hills and William Buick.  He is a son of Churchill and won well on debut.  However we are going for Edwardian here – O'Brien-Moore and you can get 7/1 for this son of No Nay Never – this is his third start and

he has a 1-2 record for the previous runs.

The Great Voltigeur G2 is for 3yo c&g over 2400m with 5 starters.  Gregory is unbeaten in 3 runs to date and is with the Gosdens with Dettori riding. 6/5 the quote for this son of Golden Horn.  The Irish raider is O'Brien's Continuous with Moore on board and 9/4 the quote.  Our roughie is extremely rough as there are only 5 starts but yes we are giving Canberra Legend a bit of support here at 16/1.

The Juddmonte International is over 2100m and the presence of Paddington seems to have scared off the opposition as he only has 3 rivals to take care of.  York racing assures us that there will be a jar of Yorkshire Marmalade added to the trophy should he win.

The going is expected to be good with the possibility of showers overnight between Wednesday and Thursday but nothing like the rain they had in July.
