Moulin day at Longchamp

3 minute read

With the Arc and Arc Trials not far away his was a great day out at Longchamp.

The feature race, named for the iconic windmill that overlooks the course, was G1 over the mile and had a field of 8.  Big Rock was looking for redemption here and did not find it as his style of running leaves him open to being pounced on nearing the finish, and this is exactly what Sauterne did, having trailed him through the race and is what Barzalona, the jockey on third home Facteur Rival would have liked to have done only Sauterne got there first.

The afternoon started with a very impressive win by Beauvatier in the Prix de la Rochette when the son of Lope de Vega came out of the pack with a great turn of foot to leave the field watching in awe.  Evade tried to catch him but it was a lost cause and Havana Grey stuck on to take third.

Lastotchka won the Gladiateur in a good race with Fasol 12/1 second and Vert Liberte third.

Horizon Dore won the Prince d'Orange from Mr Moliere 12/1 and Birr Castle third.

La Coupe de Maisons-Lafitte went Naranco 9/1 from our roughie German raider Lord Charming 10/1 and True Testament third on 4/1.

Next weekend is the Arc Trials at Longchamp – in many ways a better day's racing than Arc days and much smaller crowds to contend with.
