The heatwave continued and the grooms had to work hard to cool down the horses after racing.

At Del Mar there was the John C Mabee over 1800m turf saw Closing Remarks justify her favouritism defeating Tunerloose 5/2 in the field of 6.

This was followed by the Debutante Stakes for 2yo fillies and favourite Tamara (after Dreamfyre was scratched) did the right thing and won from Laurent 15/2 and Gate To Paradise .

Over at Kentucky Downs it was busy – first we had the Franklin-Simpson where Private Creed won for Asmussen-Rosario, followed home by Playlist 6/1 and Sweet Cherry Pie 7/2.  This was a Breeders' Cup "Win and you're in"  so guess they will be off to California.

The Turf Sprint saw Gear Jockey prevail over One Timer.  Nobals was a no-show.

The Ladies' Turf Sprint went to favourite Bay Storm over second favourite Wakanaka with Tony Ann 5/1 third home.

And the Kentucky Turf Cup was a boil-over with Get Smokin 20/1 winning from Spooky Channel 18/1 and Santin third, with Red Knight fourth.
