Newmarket Friday and Saturday

3 minute read

It's a very big weekend of racing starting off with Newmarket.

Friday's card has 2 G2s and a G3, Saturday's a G2, two G1s and the Cambridgeshire.

Friday sees the running of the Princess Royal G3 for f&m over 2400m and has a field of 11 headed by Sweet Memories which could be apt for Frankie Dettori who rides the Gosdens' filly.  Stablemate Running Lion is one we like a lot and 9/2 could be value, and we will add Sea Theme for Haggas-Marquand on 5/1.

The Rockfel is G2 over 1400m for 2yo fillies with Ollie Sangster's smart filly Shumari on top on 13/8 with James Doyle in the irons. She's by New Bay. Aidan O'Brien is sending over a number of his 2yos and the Frankel filly Ylang Ylang is the one here on 5/2 – she mght have been favourite if her last run had been better.  Carla's Way is on 9/2 for the Crisfords with James Doyle riding.

The Joel is G2 over 1600m with just 6 runners so it looks like being between Maijoom 9/4 and Chindit 7/2.

Saturday starts off with the Royal Lodge G2 for 2yos over 1600m with 9 runners.  Aidan O'Brien has Capulet, a Justify colt, running here with Ryan Moore riding and they are on 7/4.Aablan is a Dubawi colt with Appleby legging up James Doyle and Al Musmaki is by Night of Thunder and with Roger Varian who has David Egan riding and they are also on 5/1.

The Chevely Park G1 for 2yo fillies over 1200m.  Relief Rally has won 4 of her 5 outings to date and the daughter of Kodiac is on 7/4 for Haggas-Marquand.  Interesting raider here in Jasna's Secret from the Lerners in France with Soumillon riding – she is on 5/1 as is Sprano for Boughey-Tudhope, and of course we have to have something on Porta Fortuna 13/2.

The Middle Park G1 for the 2yo colts is over 1200m with a field of 9.   Vandeek has won all three of his starts and is on 7/4 to continue this run.  James Doyle is riding the son of Havana Grey for the Crisfords.  River Tiber is the O'Brien-Moore runner – he's by Wooton Bassett and is on 15/8 had has 3 wins and a third from his four starts.  Jasour is another Havana Grey and is with Clive Cox with Richard Kingscote riding and they are on 7/1.

The Cambridgeshire requires an extremely sharp pin with 35 runners in this famous Heritage Handicap over 1800m.  The market has Greek Order on 4/1, and 9/1 for Astro King and Oviedo.  Good luck!
