American racing end September/ start October

The Santa Anita meet should go ahead but the Belmont at Aqueduct is in doubt.

The whole of New York was hit by a deluge on Friday and as a result Aqueduct's Friday card was cancelled and the same will probably apply for Saturday and if they do race the track will be very soggy so throw the form book out the window.

Let's concentrate on Santa Anita which hosts three Gr2s and a Gr 1.  Starting with the G2s we lead off with the Sprint Championship over 1200m with 9 runners.  Bob Baffert's Arabian Lion is on 5/2 with Maldonado riding and on 9/2 there is Dr Schivel for Glatt – J J Hernandez. Then there are three runners on 6/1 so use the sharp pin.

The Awesome Again is Gr 1 and over 1800m with a field of 9.   Defunded has been working hard at defunding us so do we take the 2/1 here?  No way!  We will probably go with the stalemate National Treasure on 4/1 or Slow Down Andy on 5/2.

The Eddie Read is Gr 2 on the downhill turf track over 1300m with 11 participants.  Bran leads the market on 5/2 for Sadler-J Hernandez from Accretive on 9/2 Brown-I Ortiz.  The rest of the field is very open.

The City of Hope Mile is Gr 2 on the turf with 9 runners and here Hong Kong Harry tops the market on 5/2 with Twist on 3/1 and Cathkin 4/1.  Looks to be a competitive race.
