38th Gran Premio Latinoamericano

3 minute read

This is a race for the whole of South American with the different jurisdictions taking turns to host the race.

It is run on turf and over 2000m and this year will be run at the San Isidoro track on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.

The home team often has the advantage in the race and the Argentinian team looks strong from most angles.  They include Natan, trained by Carlos Etchechoury and to be ridden by Gianetti and who seems the probable favourite, Irwin (P Sahagian-W Moreyra) , Pepe Joy (G Romero – JC Villagra) and Best Galano (R Pellegatta-W Pereyra) who has a win on this track over a 2400 trip so going down in distance which is often a good thing.

There are 3 females who get a weight allowance – Samay from Peru (J Villarroel-CJ Kerrera) who beat Don't Lose Time, the American bred (R Viza – M Arenas), Costa del Norte from Chile (P Alamos – O Ulloa) who has a recent G3 win, and Demi Moore from Uruguay ( J Cairo- JL Moura).

The Brazilian team is usually strong and they include Callejero the mount of Francisco Leandro and Doutour Surene (V Formosa-J Silva) who looks to be the best of these two.

Chile both hosted and won this last time and in addition to the mare they are sending the promising Viva La Vida (O Lopez – JA Herrera) a recent G3 winner and Roheryn (X Pastene – J Valdivia.

Add to the Peruvians mentioned above Don Feres, a stablemate of Samay, to be ridden by G J Trujillo.

Always difficult to pick them in a race like this but we will go Natan, Samay, Costa del Norte and Best Galano for a bit of fun rather than re-stocking the retirement fund.
