28th Shuka Sho

3 minute read

Will be run in Kyoto on Sunday 15th October

But before that on Saturday we have the G2 Ireland Trophy Fuchu Himba Stakes in Tokyo over the 1800m.

It's for f&m and it is a very open race with virtually nothing between the top 3 in the market – Divina on 5.0, Shinryokukai 5.2 and Presage Lift on 5.4 with the respective jockeys being Mirco Demuro, Y Yoshida and Christophe Lemaire.

With such an open race we are looking at an old favourite Lilac on 10.0, who will be ridden by Tosaki.

Sunday's Shuka Sho is the third leg in the fillies crown and Liberty Island is looking to get the very rare treble.  The daughter of Aussie mare Yankee Rose and Duramente has a withering finish speed and the 2000m doesn't look like it will be a problem.  Although it is her first visit to Kyoto she has shown that she can run well in both directions and she doesn't have far to travel from her base at Ritto.

Of course she is odds-on at 1.2 which means there are some good quinella possibilities with the second favourite Masked Diva on 14.3.  She won the Rose in record time and will be ridden by the talented M Iwata.  Harper is a serious challenger and the daughter of Heart's Cry is on 16.6 with Lemaire riding.

We have a roughie here too in Dura, also by Duramente, who was third in the Oaks and has won at G3 level.  It's a step up but who knows!

Liberty Island is aiming at the Japan Cup this year and a clash with Equinox promises to make it memorable.
