Japanese St Leger weekend

3 minute read

Starts in Tokyo Saturday with the Fuji Stakes G2.

This 1600m race is more challenging in terms of looking for a winner than Sunday's St Leger as it has the more experienced and better-known horses running.

Topping the Morning Line is Eternal Time on 4.2 with Lemaire riding but we are leaning towards the next in line Namur on 5.1 with Joao Moreira on board.  Elusive Partner is on 6.5 with M Iwata riding and Red Mon Reve is 7.4 and definitely worth a little e/w.

Sunday we move to Kyoto for the G1 Kikika Sho (Japanese St Leger) over 3000m for the 3yos and the third leg in the triple crown.  While the first two in the Guineas and the Derby are running that involves two different horses so no triple crown this year.

Those two horses are Sol Oriens who won the Guineas and was second in the Derby and Tastiera who was second in the Guineas and won the Derby.  Sol Oriens is on 2.2 and the son of Kitasan Black has his regular jockey T Yokoyama in the irons. He recently won the St Lite Kinen as a prep for this.  Tastiera will be partnered by Joao Moreira this time and is on 6.0.  He's by Satono Crown.

We like the way Satono Glanz has been improving in all his runs and will risk some of the hard-earned on him – Kawada rides and 7.5 is tempting and he's by Satono Diamond.  Durazze is by Duramente and ius on 8.5 with Lemaire riding and Heart's Cry is on 10.6 but he was recently beaten by Satono Glanz.
