Pegasus 2024

3 minute read

The Pegasus World Cup now consists of three parts which will be run at Gulfstream Park on Saturday.

There are two Gr 2s and two Gr 1s at the pointy end of the card. The first of the Gr 2s is the Inside Information over 1400m,  Maryquitecontrary heads the Morning Line on 2/1, with Intrepid Daydream on 5/2 and we like Olivia Darling here on 4/1.

The Pegasus World Cup f&m Turf is Gr 2 over 1700m with prize money of US$500K.  The 12 runners are headed by Star Fortress on 5/2 but we have a slight preference for the next in line, Fluffy Socks on 9/2 for Chad Brown and Irad Ortiz.  There are two on 6/1 – the Chilean mare Didia who has performed well in the US with Ignacio Correas putting J-L Ortiz up, and Queen Goddess (McCarthy-Gaffalone).

The Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational is Gr 1 over 1800m with 12 runners and 1 emergency.  This race looks ideal for Warm Heart and she comes in as a warm favourite on 9/5 with Ryan Moore as usual riding the Aidan O'Brien runner.  Integration is on 3/1 and the Chilean mare Master Piece is on 8/1.  If you want to go wide there are 3 runners on 15/1 who could appeal -I'm Very Busy (Brown-I Ortiz), Catnip (Stidham-Dettori) and Shirl's Speight (Attfield-Saez).  This race is worth US$1 million.

The Pegasus World Cup Invitational is also over 1800m, has 12 runners an 1 emergency and is worth US$3 million.  Baffert's National Treasure is on 9/5, Godolphin's First Mission is on 7/2 and then there are three on 8/1 – the Chilean champ O'Connor now with S A Joseph, Grand Aspen (Pletcher-Saez) and another Joseph runner Skippylongstockings.  Should be an interesting race.
