Saudi Cup weekend

3 minute read

The racing starts on Friday with the International Jockeys Challenge.

There are 14 jockeys competing and the potential prize money has been goo enough to drag the horses involved we will just wish them all good luck.

The Saudi Derby is over 1600m dirt and has a field of 12 headed by Japanese horse Forever Young from Yahagi-sensai's stable with Sakai on board – they are on 10/11. American challenger Bookem Danno is on 9/2 and the Japanese runners Set Up 8/1 and Satono Phoenix 16/1 should be respected,

The Turf Sprint is G2 over 1400m with Godolphin's Mysterious Night the probable favourite on 9/4.  Japanese runner Aguri is fast and Lemaire takes the ride – they are on 5/1 with Bathrat Leon on 6/1 along with French raider Mathilde Picotte who gets the female allowance here which may prove useful in the finish.

The Neom Turf Cup is G2 with 13 runners headed by Luxembourg.  We hope he has the form to justify the even money quote and as usual Ryan Moore is riding for Aidan O'Brien.  The Foxes did well in the UK last season and Andrew Balding is legging up Oisin Murphy – 6/1.

We also like the chances of Hearts Content with Takei-sensei booking Joao Moreira for the ride and they are on 10/1.

The Red Sea Turf is G3 over 3000m with Tower of London heading the market on 4/1 for O'Brien-Moore.  It's quite an open race so we are putting in Giavellotto on 7/1 and Iron Barrows on 8/1.

The Saudi Cup is billed as the richest race in the world.  It's G1 over 1800m and currently the market has White Abarrio on top on 9/4.  Lemon Pop is next in the market on 11/2 and while we admit that his work rider has the coolest jacket we are looking further out in the Japanese runners and going for last year's Dubai World Cup winner Ushba Tesoro on 8/1.  We are also fond of Dermo Sotogake on 6/1.  Bob Baffert's National Treasure is also a very good horse and 6/1 looks a bit on the generous side.
